Sovereign storage · S3 · Nextcloud

Your storage. In Europe.

S3 object storage. Nextcloud. Or a hybrid solution.

Scalable, S3-compatible object storage and Nextcloud – operated on our own infrastructure in Europe. For European digital sovereignty and security, GDPR-compliant and without cloud lock-in.

Services

Storage that belongs to you

We offer three storage options: S3-compatible object storage for backups, archives and applications, Nextcloud for sync, share and team folders, and both combined, with Nextcloud using the S3 storage as its backend. All three run on our own infrastructure in Europe, with buckets, policies and keys under your control, scalable per GB.

S3 object storage

S3-compatible storage for backups, archives and applications – API-identical to AWS S3.

  • S3-API compatible
  • Buckets, policies, keys
  • Scalable per GB

Nextcloud storage

Files, sharing and collaboration – a sovereign alternative to Dropbox and the like.

  • Sync & share
  • Team folders & shares
  • Desktop & mobile apps

S3 & Nextcloud combined

Both from a single source: Nextcloud uses the S3 storage as its backend – so you combine scalable object storage with convenient collaboration on one sovereign platform.

  • Nextcloud on S3 backend
  • Scale meets convenience
  • One provider, one login
Use cases

What customers use nokkela.cloud for

Customers use nokkela.cloud mainly for two things. We provide scalable S3 storage as the data and knowledge base for nokkela.io AI agents, so documents and results stay under your control, and we run Nextcloud for collaboration and secure file exchange with customers and business partners. Backup targets and archives are typical too.

Storage for AI agents

Scalable S3 storage as the data and knowledge base for nokkela.io agents – documents and results kept under your control.

File exchange

Nextcloud for collaboration and secure file exchange with customers & business partners.

Security & sovereignty

Your data stays in Europe

Your data stays in Europe because we operate this storage on our own infrastructure there, with no transfer to third countries and no dependency on a US cloud. Data is stored redundantly across the cluster using erasure coding, which protects against hardware failures, and access is governed by fine-grained permissions, keys and policies.

GDPR-compliant

No transfer to third countries, no US cloud dependency.

Redundancy

Redundant storage within the cluster (erasure coding) protects against hardware failures.

Access control

Fine-grained permissions, keys and policies.

Why Nokkela

A partner, not just a provider

We aim to be a partner rather than just a storage vendor, so three things are fixed: this storage runs on our own European infrastructure, which keeps data residency in Europe and processing GDPR-compliant; the S3 API and open standards keep you free to migrate; and capacity scales transparently per GB as you grow.

Sovereign – data residency in Europe

Our purely European cloud and infrastructure guarantees maximum data security in line with the GDPR.

Compatible

S3 API and open standards – no lock-in, easy migration.

Scalable

Grows with you – transparent per GB, no surprises.

Frequent questions

Questions about storage and cloud

Below are the questions we are asked most often about this area. Each answer is written to stand on its own, so it stays correct when quoted alone.

What does S3-compatible mean in practice and will our existing S3 applications work?

nokkela.cloud provides S3-compatible object storage whose API matches AWS S3, so applications, SDKs and backup software that already speak S3 can use it. In practice you point the client at our endpoint and authenticate with the access keys issued for your buckets; bucket names, objects and policies behave the way your tooling expects. Because the interface is a standard, data can be moved in and out again without a proprietary format.

Can Nextcloud use the S3 object storage as its backend?

Yes – nokkela.cloud offers Nextcloud with the S3 object storage as its storage backend, both from a single source. That combination pairs scalable object storage with the collaboration layer users see: files, sharing, team folders and desktop and mobile apps sit on top, while the objects themselves live in the S3 buckets. You deal with one provider and one login; both halves run on our own infrastructure in Europe.

Does erasure coding in the cluster replace a backup?

No – the erasure coding used at nokkela.cloud stores data redundantly within the cluster and protects against hardware failures such as a failed disk or node, but it is not a backup. Redundancy reproduces a deletion or an encryption by ransomware just as faithfully as it reproduces valid data, so a separate backup with its own retention is still needed. The S3 storage itself can serve as that backup target.

How do we control who can access which bucket or folder?

Access at nokkela.cloud is governed by fine-grained permissions, keys and policies. On the S3 side each application or team gets its own access keys; bucket policies decide which key may read, write or list what – an agent that only needs to read an archive gets no write rights. On the Nextcloud side the same principle applies through team folders and shares, so a share with a partner covers only the folder you release.

Can Nextcloud from nokkela.cloud replace a service like Dropbox for our team?

Nextcloud storage from nokkela.cloud is meant as a sovereign alternative to Dropbox and the like: sync and share, team folders and shares, and desktop and mobile apps give users the same everyday workflow. The difference is where the data sits – on our own infrastructure in Europe, GDPR-compliant, with no transfer to third countries and no dependency on a US cloud. The same platform covers secure file exchange with customers and business partners.

How does storage capacity scale and how is it billed?

Object storage at nokkela.cloud scales per GB: capacity grows with what you actually store instead of being bought as a fixed appliance, and billing follows the same per-GB logic transparently. There is no standard price list, because the scope – volume, retention, how many buckets and users – determines the price; you receive a quote that fits once we have looked at your requirement. The initial consultation of up to 30 minutes is free.

Can nokkela.cloud serve as the data base for AI agents?

Yes – nokkela.cloud provides scalable S3 storage as the data and knowledge base for the AI agents built at nokkela.io, with documents and results kept under your control. Agents read source documents from a bucket and write their results back into a bucket, each with their own access keys, so what the agents work on stays in storage in Europe instead of being uploaded to an external cloud service.
